Opioid Treatment Program

Buprenorphine (Suboxone) is used in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) to help people reduce or quit their use of opiates. As a partial opioid agonist, Buprenorphine allows for reduced euphoria and physical dependence on opiates by suppressing symptoms of withdrawal and decreasing cravings. Buprenorphine can be administered through oral film, tablet, or injection and lasts 24 hours.

The use of Buprenorphine is part of Opioid Treatment Program that includes medication monitoring, drug screening, and therapy.

A health, psychiatric, and substance use history is conducted at the initial visit prior to receiving Buprenorphine. Call 703-646-7664 for more information or to schedule with Gwen Davis, MSN-FNP-BC.

Vivitrol® (naltrexone for extended-release injectable suspension) is administered as part of a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program to help prevent relapse for alcohol and opioid dependent clients. As an opioid antagonist,  Vivitrol® works by blocking molecules from attaching to receptors, nullifying the euphoric effects of alcohol and opiates introduced to the body.  Vivitrol® is non-addictive and proven to help reduce heavy drinking days in alcohol dependent clients when combined with therapy.

The extended-release injection of  Vivitrol® is effective in the body for one month. This allows clients to focus on the necessary lifestyle changes for balanced recovery. Clients who have received the injection report a reduction in cravings and decreased effects of alcohol or opioids if they do use them, thus reducing the overall amount and frequency.

Using opioids even in small amounts before a  Vivitrol® treatment can lead to accidental overdose, serious injury, coma, or death. Because of precipitating withdrawal clients must be opiate free before receiving  Vivitrol®.

A medical screening is necessary prior to receiving a prescription for  Vivitrol®. Insight contracts with a specialty pharmacy that can overnight your dose to be administered by Gwen Davis, MSN-FNP-BC, as part of an office visit.
