As co-founder and Clinical Director of Insight Into Action Therapy, she provides a wide variety of services to include mental health and substance use disorders therapy, clinical supervision, community education, and court-involved assessment and treatment. She is also the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Insight Recovery Centers, a Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services licensed intensive outpatient program and outpatient program (ASAM Level 1.0 and 2.1 level of care) for those struggling with substance use disorders. With Craig James, she co-developed the Dual Diagnosis Recovery Program© used in both companies.
Cyndi has written three #1 New Release books: Can I Keep Drinking? How You Can Decide When Enough is Enough; The Clinician’s Guide to Alcohol Moderation: Alternative Methods and Management Strategies, and Practicing Alcohol Moderation: A Comprehensive Workbook. She designed the Alcohol Moderation Assessment which determines a person’s likelihood of success of practicing alcohol moderation. She is a harm reduction therapist who challenges the traditional belief that all drinkers experiencing problems are “alcoholics” who must quit drinking forever.
Prior to founding Insight Into Action Therapy, Cyndi served as Clinical Director for Finding Solutions Counseling Centers. She has provided services in both inpatient and outpatient substance abuse and psychiatric settings, including the emergency services unit of a local Community Services Board. She also spent eight years providing intensive in-home services for adolescents, children and families. She believes in strong collaboration with other professionals in order to provide the most effective services possible.
Cyndi’s Areas of Expertise
Cyndi facilitates groups and provides individual and family therapy. In addition to her expertise in the field of substance use disorders and addictive behaviors, she has a special interest in the mind/body connection. As a former competitive swimmer whose career ended prematurely as a result of injuries, and nearly 30 years of vague symptoms that finally led to a diagnosis of Chronic Lyme Disease, she stresses the importance of exercise and nutrition. She enjoys working with athletes of all levels and provides therapy for players involved with the National Football League’s Program for Substances of Abuse.
Another of Cyndi’s special skills is her ability to form relationships with individuals of any age. She helps find the strengths in people in order to help them conquer the issues with which they may be struggling. As a therapist, she believes people are made up of more than just their problems, and explores creative ways to turn insights into action. She links families with supporters and develops coping strategies that will continue long after the therapeutic relationship has ended.
She is an approved Clinical Supervisor for Licensure and has been qualified as an Expert Witness in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the field of substance abuse and mental health counseling. She is also a nationally recognized trainer on the topic of alcohol moderation, Moderation Friendly therapist, and a topic expert/contributor for GoodTherapy.org.

Scott Kimble, LCSW-S
Therapist
Scott started working in a small town in Illinois after receiving a Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Jane Adams College of Social Work. For 25 years he worked with teachers, students, politicians, CEOs, train engineers, conductors, clerks, nurses, airline pilots, flight attendants and mechanics here and abroad.
Unexpectedly, he developed almost three decades of experience helping those who witnessed and experienced trauma move forward, acknowledging and accepting the experiences as part of the cloth of their life. In the third month of his counseling career, a man lost his life in an Illinois factory. Being in a small town he volunteered his novice skills. As an inexperienced clinician, he shouldn’t have been there, but with guidance from an experienced supervisor/former professor he learned a lesson not taught in school: being present and listening as a fellow being is more important than any philosophy or clinical technique. This served him well in his next position for Canadian Pacific Railway where lives are lost on the tracks and in rail yards every year.
In his first year at Canadian Pacific Railway as the EAP serving 18 Midwestern states, the Department of Transportation mandated drug and alcohol testing across the transportation industry. This government mandate set the terms of his work for the next 20 years. Compassionate employers promote Employee Assistance programs for someone with drug and/alcohol struggles. As disruptive a process as it is for employer and employee, drug and alcohol testing can sometimes identify struggles at a critical moment in a person’s growth, especially if that positive test is perceived to be a catalyst for change. EAPs have traditionally been there for employees at those occasions and United Airlines had a very successful EAP in those terms.
Scott applied for a position and was honored to be one of five mental health professionals employed by United Airlines. He feels lucky to have provided mental health services in England, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Canada, Mexico and Peru. Through all that travel, he learned what translates most is a human connection.
After United Airlines lost two planes and many lives during the events of 9/11, Scott spent a month in Pennsylvania with a fellow clinician at the site where Flight 93 went down. Although he had more experience by then, the extended experience was intense for all and being present as a listener for the recovery crew and visiting employees was often enough.
Scott Kimble a license-eligible therapist working under the supervision of Insight Into Action’s Clinical Director, Cyndi Turner. He enjoys kayaking, bike riding, listening to music, and being with the purity of animals. Scott has played guitar daily for 45 years. He’s discovered that there’s comfort in home, especially the farther one travels from it. For 20 years he’s lived in a small Northern, VA town that is less than half the size of the small town he started working in 30 years ago and appreciates the benefits of a small community.

Sumit Anand, MD
Psychiatrist
Dr. Sumit Anand brings extensive experience in treating psychiatric disorders, dating back to 1993, where he worked and trained in both England and the United States. As a result, Dr. Anand both believes in and practices a holistic, biopsychosocial approach. Consequently, he does not solely focus on medications as the only solution to an individual’s needs, but more as one key piece of a “puzzle.” He utilizes education and therapy in addition to medication management during his sessions.
Dr. Anand graduated from The United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals (University of London) 1992. He went on to serve partial residency training in psychiatry at the University of Cambridge in England, as well as non-training posts in Forensic Psychiatry there, before coming to the United States to complete his psychiatry residency at the University of Virginia Medical Center in 1998. After completing his residency and specialist forensic psychiatric training at the University of Virginia in 2003, Dr. Anand went on to become board certified in Psychiatry in 2005, and then in Forensic Psychiatry in 2009.
